Madison police search after gunfire during online phone sale
A planned phone sale arranged through an online marketplace turned into a police search Monday night after the prospective buyer ran off with the device and fired two shots, Madison police said Thursday. The seller told police he had arranged to meet the suspect near Huxley and Roth streets. After the suspect grabbed the phone, the seller chased him toward the 900 block of Huxley Street, where the suspect fired twice, police said. Officers were called to the area at about 7:05 p.m. and found two shell casings. Police searched with patrol officers, drones and K-9 teams, but did not locate the suspect. The seller was not hurt. Madison police advised people arranging online purchases or sales to meet in a public place, such as a police station, bring another person and confirm payment before leaving with an item.
