Juneau County authorities seek 5-year-old after court-ordered custody exchange missed
NEW LISBON, Wis. — Juneau County authorities are searching for 5-year-old Atlas Kleiser and his mother, 39-year-old Carrie Murphy, after Murphy missed a court-ordered custody exchange and left a residence with the child before officers arrived. The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office said Murphy was required under a Monroe County court order to bring Atlas to the New Lisbon Police Department by 11 a.m. Wednesday for an exchange with his father. She did not appear. A traffic camera detected Murphy’s vehicle traveling north in Jackson County at about 11 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office. Around 8:30 p.m., Rusk County deputies went to a residence where Murphy and Atlas were last known to be. Authorities said Murphy left with the boy before they arrived. As of Thursday morning, officials did not know where they were. The sheriff’s office said Murphy has ties to Monroe, Juneau, Sawyer and Rusk counties and raised concerns about her mental health. It also said her conduct during a court hearing earlier Wednesday nearly resulted in her being jailed. Murphy was last seen driving a 2016 Kia Sportage with Wisconsin license plate BCP-1849. Anyone with information about Murphy or Atlas’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office at 608-847-5649.
