Madison police are investigating whether two drivers were racing before a crash that killed a road worker near Pflaum and Alder roads on the city’s east side Thursday afternoon. The crash happened around 1:10 p.m. in front of Sennett Middle School. The 65-year-old man was working with several other crew members on the road when he was struck, police said. One driver initially left the scene, but police contacted that driver Thursday. Investigators had also been searching for a second vehicle; its driver later came forward. Both drivers have been interviewed and are cooperating, police said. Their names have not been released. Police said it appears the vehicles were racing before the crash. Traffic investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing video gathered at the scene and submitted by community members. Police said they expected to provide more information the following week.
