A fire involving equipment and the roof of a Madison recycling facility brought a full structure-fire response early Saturday, Oct. 17, on the city’s east side.

Dane County Dispatch received a call reporting an odor of smoke at 3:01 a.m. from the 4400 block of Sycamore Avenue, according to the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters found equipment burning inside the building, with flames also on the roof.

Crews cut an opening in the roof to reach the fire. The department said the fire inside the building was extinguished around 3:20 a.m. It did not provide a time for when the roof fire was put out. Firefighters remained at the scene as of 7:15 a.m.

No one was injured, the department said. Officials had not released information about the cause or the extent of damage.
