51-year-old man dies after medical emergency in Lake Monona during Madison triathlon
A 51-year-old man died Saturday after experiencing an emergency during the swim portion of the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon in Lake Monona. Rescuers brought him to shore and lifesaving efforts continued at a hospital, officials said.
A 51-year-old man died Saturday after experiencing an emergency during the swimming portion of the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon in Lake Monona, according to the Madison Fire Department.
Emergency crews were called to the lake at 7:47 a.m. UW Lake Rescue reached the swimmer first and helped bring him to shore, Madison Fire Department Public Information Officer Cynthia Schuster said.
Rescuers attempted lifesaving measures before taking the man to a hospital, where he later died.
The man’s identity and the nature of the emergency were not immediately released.
