UK HealthCare and Signature plan 105-bed recovery center in Lexington’s Hamburg area
The University of Kentucky’s health system and Louisville-based Signature HealthCARE will jointly develop a skilled nursing facility at UK’s Hamburg campus. The 105-bed center is intended to help patients continue recovering after leaving the hospital but before they are ready to return home.
A new 105-bed skilled nursing facility is planned for the University of Kentucky’s Hamburg campus in Lexington under a partnership with Louisville-based Signature HealthCARE.
The UK Board of Trustees approved the agreement Friday. The facility is intended to provide care for patients who have left the hospital but need additional rehabilitation and support before returning home. UK has not announced an opening date.
UK affiliate Beyond Blue Corp. will own 60% of the facility, while Commonwealth Regional Skilled Nursing Holdings, an affiliate of Signature HealthCARE, will own 40%. A separate Signature affiliate will oversee daily operations. UK HealthCare will provide clinical leadership and medical director services, and the facility will purchase services from affiliates of both partners.
UK Executive Vice President Eric Monday said patients who come to UK HealthCare from across Kentucky should be able to continue their recovery with a facility connected to the team that treated them. Signature President and CEO Joe Steier said skilled nursing care can help patients rebuild strength and regain independence after hospitalization.
Signature operates 67 skilled nursing facilities, including more than 30 in Kentucky. The planned center is part of UK HealthCare’s multi-phase development at its Hamburg property off Winchester Road.
