Teen wounded in Louisville police shooting after Okolona domestic call
A 15-year-old was shot by a Louisville officer Monday after police said he fired a rifle toward the officer and his mother during a response to a domestic violence call. The officer is on administrative leave as the department’s Public Integrity Unit investigates.
A 15-year-old boy was shot by a Louisville Metro Police Department officer Monday afternoon in Okolona after police said the teen fired a rifle toward the officer and his mother during a domestic violence response.
Officers were called around 4 p.m. to the 3700 block of Cutler Road after a report that a mother had been injured by her son, LMPD said. An officer was speaking with the woman when the teen arrived with a rifle and fired, according to police.
Police said the officer moved the woman to safety and ordered the boy to put down the weapon. The teen fired again, and the officer returned fire, striking him several times. The officer then provided aid, and the boy was taken to a hospital. Police said he was in surgery at 6:45 p.m. Monday; they did not provide an update on his condition.
LMPD has not released the boy’s name. The officer was placed on administrative leave while the department’s Public Integrity Unit investigates. Police said they plan to release body-camera footage within 10 business days.
Neighbors told local television they heard an initial shot, followed about two minutes later by six more. Robert Loudermilk, who lives nearby, described the teen as friendly and said he often saw him playing basketball.
The investigation will examine the circumstances of the shooting, including the sequence of events described by police. No additional details about the domestic violence call or the boy’s condition were released.
