Wrong-way collision on Sahara sends two drivers to UMC in critical condition
A wrong-way crash near Tenaya Way on Thursday left both drivers critically injured and damaged several nearby vehicles. Las Vegas police are investigating possible impairment and say the 58-year-old wrong-way driver faces reckless-driving-related charges.
Two drivers were in critical condition after a wrong-way collision on West Sahara Avenue near Tenaya Way Thursday morning, Las Vegas police said.
The crash happened before 11:30 a.m. A 58-year-old woman, identified by police as Corazon Blackwell, was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes when her vehicle veered right and struck a westbound 2025 BMW iX in the center lane. The BMW’s driver is 39.
Both drivers were taken to University Medical Center’s Trauma Center. Police said the impact caused major damage to both vehicles and scattered debris across the road. Debris struck two other cars, though neither driver was injured, and damaged five parked vehicles at a nearby auto dealership.
Detectives are investigating whether impairment played a role. Blackwell was booked in absentia at the Clark County Detention Center on reckless-driving-related charges while hospitalized. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section is continuing its investigation.
