Nevada says breach exposed personal data in about 10% of SafeVoice tips

A cyberattack involving vendor Navigate360 compromised personally identifying information in about one in 10 Nevada SafeVoice tips that contained such data. The state says the reporting system remains available, but its anonymous design means officials cannot directly contact everyone affected.

Nevada says breach exposed personal data in about 10% of SafeVoice tips

Personal information in about 10% of Nevada SafeVoice reports that included identifying details was compromised in a multistate cyberattack involving technology vendor Navigate360, the Nevada Department of Education said in October 2026.

SafeVoice is a 24-hour system for students, families and others to report school safety concerns, including anonymously. The state said the breach may have affected the service during an incident that ran from November 2025 through March 2026. Navigate360 notified Nevada earlier in the spring that SafeVoice might have been affected while an independent forensic investigation was underway.

Because many users submit reports without identifying themselves, education officials said they cannot reliably determine who was affected or notify everyone directly. The department and the Nevada Department of Public Safety are working with school districts and local law enforcement to share information and help families find support. State officials also said they are seeking accountability and stronger protections from Navigate360 in coordination with education leaders elsewhere.

“ That trust is essential, and the compromise of sensitive information is unacceptable,” Superintendent of Public Instruction Victor Wakefield said, adding that the state had pressed the company for answers. He described SafeVoice as a way for students to raise concerns about their own safety or someone else’s and connect with adults able to intervene.

Navigate360 said SafeVoice remains operational and available around the clock. It established a toll-free assistance line with HaystackID, the firm that conducted the forensic analysis. The number is 833-966-1754, available Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding holidays.

The breach has drawn congressional inquiries and a U.S. Department of Justice criminal investigation, according to the state. Nevada officials said they would post information on the SafeVoice website about the potential impact and available remedies through Navigate360.
