Nearly 2,000 people took part in the American Heart Association’s 2026 Las Vegas Heart Walk on Saturday, Oct. 24, raising more than $230,000 while highlighting heart disease and stroke prevention.

The event brought together survivors, families and supporters. Valerie Piroconner, a survivor who said she had 90% blockages in her arteries, encouraged people to know their health numbers, make healthy choices and take warning signs seriously. She pointed to eating more fruits and vegetables, limiting red meat and exercising regularly as steps that can support heart health.

Taryn Sharp of Heartbeat For Life said women may mistake cardiovascular symptoms for stress, potentially delaying care. Tina Ballamis of Select Health urged people to consider family history, describing how the early death of a grandfather she never met affected her family’s concerns about inherited risk.

Health experts recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week, such as brisk walking, cycling or swimming. Organizers said CEO Chris Loftus and West Henderson Hospital were the event’s top fundraisers. The money raised supports the walk’s heart-health mission, though no specific allocation of the proceeds was announced.
