Carrot Top plans Oct. 19 return to Luxor after month-long recovery

LAS VEGAS — Carrot Top says he will return to the Luxor stage at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, nearly a month after he was hospitalized following a suicide attempt.

The 61-year-old comedian, whose given name is Scott Thompson, announced his return in an Instagram post Saturday. He thanked people who had sent messages, texts and well wishes, saying their support had meant a great deal during his recovery.

Thompson was hospitalized in critical condition on Sept. 18 after police said he was found unconscious near his backyard pool. His publicist said several days later that he was awake, breathing on his own and improving, with family and close friends around him. He was released after about a week to recover at home.

Thompson has performed at the Luxor since 2005, often appearing nearly 300 times a year. His stage act is known for oversized props, comic inventions and elaborate lighting and music.

During his hospitalization, representatives said fans had shared stories about how his comedy helped them through difficult periods. Thompson’s planned return marks his first announced show since the hospitalization.
