Reynaldo “Rey” Rodis II was shot while trying to stop three armed suspects at a business near Pecos and Flamingo roads, police say. His family is seeking accountability as the suspects remain at large.
Reynaldo “Rey” Rodis II, a Las Vegas boxing promoter and business owner, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery at an East Las Vegas business near Pecos Road and Flamingo Road, police say. He was 45.
Police say three armed suspects entered the business and shot Rodis when he tried to stop the robbery. The suspects remain at large. Friends who were at the scene described watching the shooting and staying with Rodis as he died.
“I was terrified,” one friend said, recalling the fear that the people present might also be targeted. Another said Rodis acted at the last moment in an effort to stop the suspects.
Rodis was known in the local boxing community as the owner of Red Boxing International. Friends said he operated several businesses, including the site of the shooting, which one described as a meditation space intended to offer a quiet place for people.
His sister, Rochielle Jocson, said the family hopes the suspects are arrested and held accountable. She remembered Rodis as a visionary who looked after others and planned to help people around him.
Friends and relatives are holding nightly prayer vigils until his funeral service. The family described his death as a senseless loss and said he will be remembered as a devoted brother and uncle.
