North Las Vegas crash at Las Vegas Boulevard and Carey Avenue kills Camaro driver

A man in his 30s died and a woman was injured in a head-on crash early Sunday at Las Vegas Boulevard and Carey Avenue in North Las Vegas, police said.

Officers responded around 4:45 a.m. Oct. 18 and found a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro and a 2011 Jeep involved in the collision. Police said the Camaro was traveling north at a very high speed when it entered a section with a road closure and directional traffic controls, veered outside the designated traffic pattern and crossed into the southbound lanes.

The Jeep, driven south by a woman in her 40s, was struck head-on. Police said she could not avoid the collision. The Camaro driver died at the scene; the Jeep driver was taken to UMC Hospital in critical condition and was later reported stable.

Investigators are still determining whether impairment played a role. The Regional Transportation Commission reported that all lanes at the intersection were blocked after the crash and urged drivers to take alternate routes.
