Travel Nevada’s new Boulder City center connects visitors and residents with local guides, rentals and trip-planning help. The project is part of a $3.7 million federal grant-funded effort to build outdoor recreation hubs in southern and northern Nevada.

A new outdoor recreation center in Boulder City is bringing local tour operators, rental businesses and trip-planning resources together near Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and the Colorado River.

The Nevada Division of Tourism, known as Travel Nevada, opened the Travel Nevada Adventure Center-Boulder City last week. The center is intended to help residents and visitors find guided trips, equipment rentals and information about recreation opportunities in the region.

Businesses operating at the site include e-bike rental and tour companies Canyon Riders LLC and Loop Trail Rentals; outdoor tour provider Desert Adventures; Hoover Dam Rafting Adventures; locker and storage business HPP Armory; and scenic air-tour company Papillon Airways.

Travel Nevada CEO Rafael Villanueva said the hub is meant to make it easier for people to turn interest in outdoor activities into planned trips, while directing business to Nevada operators and supporting local communities. Staff will share safety and conservation information and connect visitors with vetted guides and outfitters.

The Boulder City location is the first of two centers planned by the state tourism agency. A second is scheduled to open in Carson City in spring 2027, near the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Travel Nevada received just over $3.7 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration after applying for a grant in 2022 to develop the two hubs. The centers combine federal, state and community resources.

Outside Interactive Inc., an outdoor media company based in Boulder, Colorado, signed a three-year naming-rights agreement. The locations will be called the Travel Nevada Adventure Centers Powered by Outside.

Boulder City Chamber of Commerce CEO Jill Rowland-Lagan described the project as an investment in the city’s role as a gateway to Lake Mead and other Southern Nevada outdoor destinations. She said the center is expected to bring visitors to local businesses while promoting the area’s character.

The Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation estimates the state’s outdoor recreation industry at $24 billion, with $13.7 billion in economic output and more than 75,000 jobs. Travel Nevada officials said more than 52 million people visited the state in 2024, while outdoor recreation spending increased by about $100 million to $1.8 billion.

National Park Service data for 2024 found that visitors to the agency’s Nevada lands spent about $327 million in nearby communities. That spending supported an estimated 2,860 jobs. Lake Mead National Recreation Area, which spans Nevada and Arizona, generated the most visitor spending among the sites discussed, at $408 million across both states.

The Boulder City center is at 102 Nevada Way and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. State officials say the Carson City hub will extend the same kind of visitor and business support to Northern Nevada.
