Two men were critically injured in a shooting Monday morning at University Place Apartments in Jacksonville, and police detained a man found inside the apartment where it happened.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers responded around 6:17 a.m. Oct. 19 to the complex at 3285 University Blvd. N., after receiving a report of a person shot, according to Sgt. Johnson.
Officers found a man in his early 30s with a gunshot wound to the neck. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue took him to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
A second man, in his mid-30s, was later found at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. A friend had brought him there, police said. He told officers he was involved in the same incident and was also in critical condition.
Detectives had not been able to interview either man because of the severity of their injuries, Johnson said. Police said investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident, but the circumstances remained under investigation.
“[T]he community’s assistance is critical,” Johnson said.
