Garland voters to weigh tax rate for city staffing and road work
Garland’s Nov. 3 ballot asks voters to approve a property tax rate of 67.99 cents per $100 of assessed value, with revenue directed to staffing, roads and city services. The proposed rate is above the voter-approval rate but below the rate the city levied last year.
Garland voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to approve a city property tax rate of $0.679900 per $100 of assessed value. The city says the measure would support hiring in police, fire, 9-1-1 dispatch and parks, increase funding for road construction and maintenance, and maintain city services and competitive pay for municipal workers.
The measure, listed as Proposition A in the city’s bond election, presents voters with a choice of “For” or “Against.” Its ballot language identifies the proposal as a tax increase because the rate is $0.036646 per $100 above the city’s voter-approval tax rate.
The proposed rate is lower than Garland’s rate of $0.689746 per $100 last year. The ballot language compares the proposal with the voter-approval rate, while last year’s figure is the rate the city actually levied.
Early voting runs from Oct. 19 through Oct. 30. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
