Printer problems disrupted early voting at about 10 locations in Collin County on Monday, the first day of Texas’ early-voting period, prompting some voters to leave before they could cast ballots, according to reports from voters and the county election commissioner.

The commissioner confirmed ballot-printer issues at several sites but said the problem was not countywide and that service had been restored. The duration of the disruptions and the number of people affected were not immediately clear.

Voters reported problems at Liberty Recreation Center in Plano. By about 9:30 a.m., voters were moving through that location, and Haggard Library was also operating, according to observations reported from the sites.

Early voting runs through Friday, Oct. 30. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters who are in line by 7 p.m. on Election Day are allowed to vote. The deadline to apply for a mail ballot is Friday, Oct. 23.

The problems came as voters began weighing a crowded midterm ballot that includes federal, state, county and judicial contests, along with local propositions. In Plano, voters will also decide on proposed taxes connected to a planned Willow Bend arena project.

Election officials have not provided a count of voters who may have been turned away or information about whether they returned to vote after service resumed.
