Two 18-year-old Mesquite residents died and a 20-year-old man was wounded in an overnight shooting that police say followed a family dispute.
Mesquite officers responded to a reported shooting just after midnight Wednesday. Police initially said they were called to the 2200 block of Amber Springs Drive, but the department later said the shooting took place in the 2800 block of Clearwater Drive.
Officers found the two teenagers with gunshot wounds and attempted lifesaving measures before taking them to a Dallas-area hospital, where both died, police said. The victims had not been publicly identified as of Wednesday morning.
The 20-year-old arrived separately at a nearby emergency room with gunshot wounds. Police said they believe he was connected to the shooting. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, and he was being taken to a Dallas-area hospital for further treatment.
Investigators believe a family dispute escalated into a physical altercation, during which guns were drawn and shots were fired, according to police. The department said it would release more information as it becomes available.
