Pilot Point school board hires outside attorney to investigate complaint involving two top officials
Pilot Point ISD’s superintendent and police chief are on paid administrative leave while attorney Scott Cummings conducts an independent investigation into a complaint involving both. The district has named Dee Carter acting police chief and is negotiating with a potential acting superintendent.
Pilot Point ISD’s superintendent and police chief have been placed on paid administrative leave while an independent investigation examines a complaint involving both officials, the district’s Board of Trustees told families Wednesday evening.
The board said the leave is intended to protect the investigation’s integrity and follows district procedures for employees involved in complaints. It stressed that investigators have made no findings. The board did not describe the complaint, citing the confidentiality of personnel matters.
The district has retained attorney Scott Cummings to lead the third-party investigation. It has not said how long the inquiry may take or when either official could return to work.
Dee Carter has been named acting chief of the district’s police department. The board also authorized its legal counsel to negotiate with a person it has identified as a possible acting superintendent; the district said it will announce an appointment if an agreement is reached.
The board said it intends to keep district operations running and maintain its work for students, staff and the community while the investigation proceeds. It said no further information is available at this time.
