Garland shooting investigation leads police to arrest Mesquite man

A man died after being shot outside a Garland business early Saturday, and police arrested a 31-year-old Mesquite man in connection with the killing.

Garland police were called at about 2 a.m. to the 500 block of West Oates Road, where officers found a man with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead after Garland Fire Department paramedics responded. Police have not yet released his identity.

Investigators believe the victim and Ezequiel Hernandez argued inside the business earlier that night. Police say the shooting happened in the parking lot after the business closed, and that the suspect left in a white Ford F-250.

Authorities later found Hernandez and the vehicle at a home in the 1300 block of Summit Street in Mesquite. Hernandez was arrested and charged with murder. As of Oct. 17, he was being held at the Garland Detention Center without bail.

The investigation is ongoing. A murder charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
