Fort Worth residents seek safeguards as Silver Creek Road facility rises

Construction on a city-described storage and logistics facility supporting data centers is troubling nearby homeowners, who say they learned of the project only after work began. They want clearer timelines and protections against noise and light pollution.

Fort Worth residents seek safeguards as Silver Creek Road facility rises

FORT WORTH — Homeowners near Silver Creek Road say they were caught off guard when construction began on a facility the city says will store servers and batteries to support data centers. As crews clear land and roadwork continues, residents are asking for details about the project and how it could affect their neighborhood.

Sandy McKinney, who lives near the site, said the work has upended what had been a quiet area. She said she started looking for information after noticing bulldozers behind her property.

The city says the development is a storage and logistics facility, not a data center itself, based on information officials have received. A city spokesperson said the property appears to have been rezoned in 2021.

Neighbor Samantha Wolff said residents do not know how the project will affect nearby homes. She wants information about the construction schedule and steps to reduce noise and light pollution, including a buffer between the facility and residential properties.

Residents say they understood the undeveloped land might eventually be built on, but want more communication as construction proceeds. They have also asked what the site will look like when work is complete and what protections will be in place for the surrounding neighborhood.

Google and the development company working with it had not responded to requests for comment at the time of reporting. The city has not provided further details in the information available to residents about the project’s timeline or neighborhood mitigation measures.
