Everman vigil honors Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez and calls for justice

EVERMAN, Texas — Neighbors and supporters gathered Saturday evening at Clyde Pittman Park for a candlelight vigil honoring Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez, the 6-year-old who disappeared in 2023 and whose remains were found in May in the backyard of his former Everman home.

Many people wore light blue, identified as Noel’s favorite color, and joined in prayer. The vigil came a week after Noel was buried in a private funeral in Arlington, more than three years after his disappearance. His family has agreed that Everman will be his final resting place, officials said.

Noel’s mother, Cindy Rodriguez Singh, was arrested and charged in his death after being extradited from India, where she had been living since he disappeared. The charge is an allegation, and the case will proceed through the courts.

“It just hit close to home,” said Felisita Espinoza, who knew Noel. Everman resident Maria Herrera said she was pained by what the boy endured.

Police Chief Al Brooks said the gathering was part of the community’s continuing pursuit of justice, not a moment of closure. He hoped it would bring residents together and remind them that children depend on adults for protection.

Catherine Townsend, who traveled from Grand Prairie and has followed the case since it first drew attention, brought a toy for Noel’s family. “He was a beautiful, beautiful boy,” she said.

Residents said they want Noel to be remembered for his life, rather than only the circumstances of his death. Espinoza said he would not be forgotten and called for justice.

In place of flowers, Noel’s family has requested donations to Alliance for Children, a Tarrant County nonprofit that supports children affected by trauma and abuse.
