Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ owner asks court to bar My Chemical Romance costumes
Pro Silver Star filed for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction in Dallas County after dancers at a My Chemical Romance concert wore outfits it says closely resemble the cheerleaders’ uniforms. The filing seeks to keep the band from using the costumes onstage.
The company that owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders brand is asking a Dallas County court to stop My Chemical Romance from using costumes that it says copy the squad’s familiar white-and-blue uniforms.
Pro Silver Star filed a motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction Friday, Oct. 24, seeking to bar the alternative rock band from wearing the outfits onstage. The filing followed the band’s Wednesday performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, where dancers wore costumes described in the court papers as nearly identical to the cheerleaders’ uniforms.
The filing says the dancers carried what appeared to be rifles and acted out a staged firefight, including a scene in which they were shot. It also says audience members and people posting online mistook the performers for the actual Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.
Pro Silver Star said it does not object to the band’s music, artistic goals or message, but wants the performers to stop wearing the uniform. “The universe of alternative costume designs is effectively unlimited,” the filing states.
The court had not ruled on the request in the information available Friday. Representatives for Pro Silver Star and the band did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
My Chemical Romance is touring to mark the 20th anniversary of its third album, “The Black Parade.” The band was scheduled to return to the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday and perform there twice over Halloween weekend.
