Dallas teenager Christopher Nevarez dies four days after being shot in car
Christopher Nevarez, 18, died Oct. 7, four days after he was shot in Dallas, and a 15-year-old boy is in custody, police said. Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 to a call in the 8200 block of Walnut Hill Lane. Investigators later determined that Nevarez and the 15-year-old arrived at a hospital in a private vehicle after being shot elsewhere. Nevarez had a gunshot wound to the neck and was in critical condition; the younger teen had been shot in the hand, according to police. Police say the 15-year-old shot Nevarez from behind while they were sitting in a car, then shot himself in the hand. The Dallas Police Fugitive Unit arrested the teen on Oct. 5 on a warrant alleging aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. After Nevarez died, police said they would update the charge in the case to manslaughter. The juvenile remains in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
