Zanesville man critically injured in shooting at Newark bar
A 25-year-old man was taken to a Columbus hospital after being shot early Sunday at Tony’s Bar on West Main Street. A suspect was arrested at the scene, and police are seeking witnesses and video as prosecutors review the case.
A 25-year-old man from Zanesville was in critical condition after a shooting early Sunday at Tony’s Bar in Newark, police said.
Newark police and Licking County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the bar, at 392 W. Main St. Officers found the man with a gunshot wound and he was taken to a Columbus hospital. Police have not released his name.
Police said a suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered a firearm from the suspect and secured it as evidence. The suspect has not been identified, and police have not disclosed what led to the shooting.
The Licking County Prosecutor’s Office was expected to review the case Monday for possible charges, police said. Anyone with information, photos or video related to the shooting is asked to contact Newark police detectives at 740-670-7215.
