Roswell’s brings burgers, chicken dogs to Grandview Avenue
The team behind Blackbird Kitchen is opening a space-themed restaurant at Woodland’s Backyard in Grandview Heights. Roswell’s plans a free-sample launch event Oct. 11 before starting regular service two days later.
A new space-themed restaurant is set to open inside Woodland’s Backyard at 668 Grandview Ave. in Grandview Heights, replacing the venue’s Blackbird Burrito Company kitchen.
Roswell’s will hold a launch party from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, with giveaways, free samples and food and drinks from local vendors. The event is open to all ages, and Woodland’s Backyard bar will be serving, owner Jack Kendall said.
The restaurant plans to close Monday, then begin regular service Tuesday, Oct. 13. Its posted hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
The menu will center on burgers, chicken tenders and wings, along with mushroom fries and options aimed at people visiting the venue’s volleyball courts. One featured item is the $6 “chicken dog”: chicken tenders served in a butter-toasted, split-top roll, with five styles that include Buffalo and Thai chile.
Kendall said the concept grew out of the team’s work grinding beef for smash burgers at Blackbird Kitchen. Using whole chuck roasts and briskets let the cooks adjust the blend and try thicker, eight-ounce patties. The new kitchen offers more room and equipment than the Blackbird Kitchen location inside Woodland’s Tavern, he said, creating space for specials and rotating sauces.
Kendall said the sauces are developed by the kitchen team. The name Roswell’s draws on his interest in space and the UFO and alien lore associated with Roswell, New Mexico. He said the Woodland’s Backyard location will also let the team test ideas that could eventually grow into standalone restaurants.
