Monsignor John Johnson dies after Upper Arlington crosswalk crash

Monsignor John Johnson, a priest at St. Agatha Church, died Wednesday after being struck by a car at Tremont and Ridgecliff roads. Police say the 17-year-old driver was turning left and did not see him in the crosswalk.

Monsignor John Johnson, a priest at St. Agatha Church in Upper Arlington, died Wednesday from injuries suffered when a car struck him in a crosswalk near Tremont and Ridgecliff roads, city officials said. The crash happened Tuesday. According to a crash report, a 17-year-old driver was turning left from Tremont Road onto Ridgecliff Road and did not see Johnson in the crosswalk. St. Agatha’s, on Northam Road, said Johnson offered spiritual guidance and inspiration to parishioners over the course of his priesthood, particularly to the church community. A funeral is planned for Oct. 10. Upper Arlington police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call 614-459-2800.
