A 24-year-old forklift operator died after a semi-truck struck the forklift in Darby Township on Wednesday morning. A second truck hit the forklift after the initial crash was stabilized; authorities say both trucks were carrying loads above the legal weight limit.
A 24-year-old man died Wednesday after a semi-truck struck the forklift he was operating on State Route 736 in Darby Township, Union County authorities said.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call shortly after 7 a.m. reporting that a semi had hit a forklift in the 10,000 block of the highway. Deputies and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers responded.
The forklift operator was thrown from the vehicle and landed near a ditch, the sheriff’s office said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. Authorities have not released his name.
After the initial crash was stabilized, a 2018 Kenworth truck also struck the forklift. No one was injured in that collision, according to the sheriff’s office.
A commercial enforcement trooper found that the loads carried by both trucks exceeded the legal weight limit. Citations were issued, and the crash remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office identified the first truck as a 2013 Peterbilt.
