Columbus schedules fall closures on two Olentangy Trail sections

Repair work will close trail segments near the OSU wetlands and Tuttle Park on separate weeks in October. Additional Olentangy and Scioto trail repairs are planned for spring, with no signed detours expected during the short closures.

Columbus schedules fall closures on two Olentangy Trail sections
Two sections of the Olentangy Trail will close temporarily this fall as Columbus begins repairs to the well-used greenway. The city plans to close about half a mile near the Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park from Oct. 12 to 16. The affected stretch runs from just north of Dodridge Street to just south of the river bridge near Olentangy Village. The dates could shift because of weather or other factors. A second closure is scheduled for Oct. 26 to 30 between Lane Avenue and the Tuttle Park Community Center. The city has not planned signed detours for either closure, citing their short duration and limited routes accessible to people walking and biking. Further work is planned for spring, when crews will address an approximately 0.8-mile section between Third Avenue and Goodale Street, a smaller area near Antrim Park, and part of the Scioto Trail near its downtown connection with the Olentangy Trail. The two Olentangy sections are expected to be handled one at a time. Columbus received just over $435,000 in federal funding through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Program for the project. Planned work includes pavement repairs, replacing pavement markings and removing some vegetation to improve visibility. The city says portions of the trail are more than 20 years old and nearing the end of their useful life, making repairs important for safety and continued use. Trail users can check the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department’s facilities alerts page for the latest closure information. Central Ohio Greenways also posts trail updates on social media.
