Downtown Discovery Pass offers rewards for visiting Gay Street businesses
A new rewards pass is inviting Columbus residents and visitors to stop by businesses in the Gay Street District while construction of the Capital Line reshapes downtown streets. Downtown Columbus, Inc. and Experience Columbus launched the Downtown Discovery Pass in September. The program includes 20 local restaurants, bars, galleries and shops, among them Chouette, Hank’s Low Country Seafood, The Citizens Trust, The Peanut Shoppe, Three Bites Bakery and Hammond Harkins Galleries. It runs through Sept. 30, 2027. Pass users can check in at participating businesses to earn rewards, including a chance to win a $50 gift card. Eight check-ins qualify users for a $25 gift card and a watercolor illustration of downtown by Columbus artist Fiona Miller. At 12 check-ins, users can receive a tote bag featuring the illustration. The initiative comes as construction on the Capital Line, a planned two-mile looped urban pathway through downtown, affects business in the district. Work began earlier this year, with completion expected by the end of 2027. “Small, local businesses are at the heart of Downtown, and supporting them is especially important as we move through the construction phase of the Capital Line,” Downtown Columbus, Inc. President Amy Taylor said in a statement. She said the pass is intended to encourage people to explore businesses and destinations during construction. Experience Columbus Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer Sarah Townes said the program is meant to help people find a new downtown business or return to a favorite. Details and pass information are available at experiencecolumbus.com/marketplace/discovery-pass.
