Midway’s Runway 22L to remain closed for repairs through mid-November

A runway at Chicago Midway International Airport is closed for safety repairs expected to last through mid-November, the Chicago Department of Aviation announced Oct. 20.

Runway 22L is closed to both arriving and departing aircraft while crews repair recent damage attributed to aircraft activity. The department said the closure could lead to flight cancellations and delays, though the level of disruption will depend on airline schedules and weather.

“Safety is the top priority at Chicago’s airports,” Aviation Commissioner Michael McMurray said in a statement. He said the department is coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration and airlines to limit disruptions and restore normal airfield operations safely and promptly.

Passengers traveling through Midway during the work should check with their airlines for current flight information.
