Gresham Home Invasion: Woman Robbed, Sexually Assaulted at Gunpoint; Police Seek Suspect

Chicago police are searching for a man who forced his way into a Gresham home Friday morning, robbed a woman at gunpoint and sexually assaulted her before fleeing on foot, authorities said.

The attack happened around 10:36 a.m. in the 7700 block of South Racine Avenue, according to police. The woman was inside the residence when an intruder broke in, burglarized the home and then sexually assaulted her while armed with a handgun, police said.

The suspect was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, a red baseball cap, a white medical mask, black pants and red shoes. He ran from the scene on foot, according to authorities.

No arrests had been announced as of Friday. Police did not release further details about the victim or the circumstances leading up to the break-in.

Anyone with information is urged to call Chicago police at 312-747-8271.

The assault is the latest violent incident to shake a South Side neighborhood where residents have long called for more resources for public safety and victim services. Community advocates say home invasions can leave survivors with lasting trauma and often go underreported, making it harder for authorities to track patterns and connect victims with support.

Police are asking neighbors in the area to review any doorbell or surveillance camera footage that might have captured the suspect before or after the attack.
