Gage Park Death Investigation: Man and Woman Found in Idling Car

Chicago police are conducting a death investigation after a man and a woman were found dead inside a running vehicle early Sunday in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The pair — a 37-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman — were discovered around 4:45 a.m. in the 2300 block of West 51st Street, according to police. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said there were no signs of injury to either person. Area 1 detectives are leading the investigation, which remains open pending the results of autopsies.

Police have not released the names of the deceased or said whether they were known to each other. No further details about the circumstances of the deaths were immediately available.

The case adds to the workload of Area 1 detectives, who cover a broad stretch of the Southwest Side. Death investigations involving people found unresponsive in vehicles can take weeks to resolve while the Cook County medical examiner's office completes toxicology and other tests.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Chicago police. The department has not asked the public for assistance as of Sunday afternoon, but residents in the area who noticed anything unusual overnight may still have information useful to investigators.
