ATM stolen after Jeep crashes into Uptown gas station minimart

Three people took an ATM from a BP gas station minimart in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood early Tuesday after a blue Jeep crashed into the building, police said.

The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at the station in the 5100 block of North Broadway, near Foster Avenue. Surveillance video released Wednesday shows the Jeep striking the minimart, followed by three people entering and removing the ATM.

A witness told police that the three people arrived in another SUV, then left in a black SUV with the Jeep’s driver, according to police. No arrests, injuries or estimate of damage was reported in the available information.

The Uptown burglary came amid several other reported break-ins across Chicago. Burglars targeted a jewelry store in Rogers Park on Tuesday morning and a 7-Eleven in River West early Wednesday, while at least four businesses on 95th Street in Beverly, Washington Heights and Roseland were also hit Wednesday, according to police accounts cited in local reporting. The incidents have not been described as connected.
