Briscoe beats Bell by 0.029 seconds in Charlotte’s second-closest NASCAR finish
Chase Briscoe won the Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway after a last-turn duel with Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell. It was Briscoe’s second straight victory and moved him to fourth in the Cup Series standings with four races left.
CONCORD, N.C. — Chase Briscoe held off teammate Christopher Bell by 0.029 seconds Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway, earning a second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series victory in the Bank of America 400.
The finish was the second-closest in the track’s history. Bell made a late charge after Briscoe had built a lead of more than two seconds, and the two Joe Gibbs Racing drivers ran side by side through the final turn. Bell got loose and the cars made slight contact, but both stayed on course as Briscoe’s No. 19 crossed the line just ahead of Bell’s No. 20.
Briscoe credited his car and team after the race, while joking that he should stop making the finishes so dramatic. He won the previous week at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The teammates combined to lead 155 of the race’s 267 laps. Bell appeared strongest in the second half, but Briscoe’s pit crew helped put him in front with about 60 laps remaining. Kyle Larson led the most laps, with 97, and finished sixth.
Larson entered Charlotte with a 40-point advantage over Denny Hamlin and left with a 49-point lead. He remains first in the standings, followed by Hamlin and Bell; Briscoe climbed to fourth, 65 points behind Larson.
With four races remaining in the 2026 season, the series heads next to Phoenix Raceway. The schedule then concludes at Talladega, Martinsville and Homestead-Miami. Larson, a two-time Cup champion, is seeking a third title, while Hamlin, Bell and Briscoe are pursuing their first.
