North Carolina voters can register through early voting, but Friday is the standard deadline
North Carolina residents have until 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, to register to vote by mail or at the polls on Election Day, Nov. 3. Voters who miss the deadline can still register at any early-voting site in their county while casting a ballot. Eligible residents can register online or by mail. Voters should also check that their registration is active and that it lists their current address, state election officials advise. Early voting runs from Oct. 15 through 3 p.m. Oct. 31. Same-day registration is available at early-voting locations in the voter’s county, but not at Election Day polling places, according to the state’s election guidance. The Nov. 3 election includes an open U.S. Senate seat, races for the state Senate and House, local contests and proposed changes to the state constitution. The outcomes could affect representation in Washington and decisions made by state and local governments. Voters who wait until Election Day must go to their assigned polling place. North Carolina requires voters to show an accepted photo ID; people who do not have one can complete an ID exception form at the polls.
