UNION COUNTY, N.C. — The Union County Sheriff’s Office sent deputies, K-9 units and drone teams to the Meriwether subdivision Tuesday night after a witness reported seeing a young child walking alone near Rogers Road and William Clark Trail, authorities said.
The search began around 10:20 p.m. Oct. 13. Witnesses described the child as a Hispanic boy, about 5 years old, with dark curly hair. He was reportedly wearing a red long-sleeve shirt, blue shorts and white shoes.
The child ran away when a witness approached, before deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators had not received a photograph and did not know the child’s name or home address.
The sheriff’s office said residents could see additional law enforcement activity as teams canvassed the neighborhood. Anyone with information about the child or where he might be was asked to call 911 immediately.
