MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Three people were hospitalized after a horse-drawn wagon accident at Lazy 5 Ranch on Saturday, Oct. 17, including an 80-year-old woman who remains on life support with serious head injuries, her son said.

The woman’s son, Eddie Quesenberry, said his aunt was also seriously injured and that his mother may need several months in the hospital. He described her as unresponsive and said she has a breathing tube.

The ranch said a tree branch fell onto the wagon, spooking a horse and causing several people to fall. The three injured people were taken to the hospital, according to the ranch’s social media post.

Lazy 5 Ranch said the incident was the first involving its horse-drawn wagons to result in an overnight hospital stay since it opened in 1993. The ranch said it works to manage risks related to horses, passengers, equipment and road conditions, including through equipment design, driver education, horse selection and road maintenance.

Quesenberry has started a fundraiser to help cover medical expenses for his mother and aunt.
