Mooresville resumes bulk water sales as some conservation rules ease

Mooresville lifted its ban on residential car washing and pressure washing on Oct. 19, and resumed bulk sales of potable water, while keeping other Stage 2 conservation rules in effect.

The town said the easing follows the end of peak water-use season and recent rainfall that improved reservoir storage, streamflow and drought conditions. Officials said they will continue monitoring water supplies and hope to move to a less restrictive drought stage in the coming months. Residents are still being asked to conserve.

Under the remaining restrictions, in-ground irrigation systems, hose-end sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems may not operate from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday or from 6 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Restrictions also remain on decorative fountains and water features that do not support aquatic life, as well as filling, draining or refilling swimming pools. Limited pool top-offs are allowed for maintenance and liner protection.

Hand watering, drip irrigation and watering cans are permitted. So is irrigation to establish newly installed landscaping and irrigation supplied by private ponds. The rules do not apply to private wells or other alternative water sources, and allow uses needed for public health, safety, firefighting and critical infrastructure.
