Threat reports prompt lockdown, evacuation and safety hold at three regional high schools
North Iredell and Kings Mountain high schools responded to bomb threats Wednesday, while Salisbury High briefly restricted movement after a report of a person with a gun nearby. No students or staff were injured; authorities said the Kings Mountain threat was a false alarm and the Salisbury suspect was taken into custody without charges as of Wednesday evening.
Three high schools in the Charlotte region took precautionary safety measures Wednesday after separate bomb-threat reports and a report of a person with a gun near a school.
North Iredell High School went into lockdown at about 2 p.m. after a third-party call reported a possible bomb threat, according to a school emergency notification. The caller reportedly said the threat might be traveling to the campus in an effort to gain access. School officials said the lockdown was issued as a precaution. Iredell County sheriff’s deputies were investigating, and the threat’s credibility had not been determined in the information available Wednesday.
Kings Mountain High School was evacuated after receiving a bomb threat sometime Wednesday afternoon. School officials said authorities searched the campus, determined the report was a false alarm and cleared the building. The school expected to operate normally Thursday, Oct. 8.
Salisbury High School was placed under a temporary “hold-and-teach” status at about 2 p.m. after a person reportedly was seen carrying a gun a few blocks away. The measure is less restrictive than a full lockdown. Salisbury police said the person was taken into custody within 13 minutes of the first call. As of about 5 p.m., police said no charges were being filed and there was no threat to the community. The school’s safety status was lifted after the person was detained.
No students or staff were injured in any of the three incidents.
