Man charged after security guard injured at CATS Arrowood Station
A 24-year-old man faces multiple charges after a security guard was allegedly struck with a rock and kicked at south Charlotte’s Arrowood light-rail station. CATS said the guard’s injuries were not life-threatening; a judge upheld the man’s denial of bond.
A security guard was injured in an alleged assault Oct. 6 at Charlotte Area Transit System’s Arrowood Station, between England Street and South Boulevard in south Charlotte, according to arrest records and CATS.
An arrest warrant alleges that Tommy Curtis Martin III, 24, hit the guard with a rock and kicked her while she was on the ground. The warrant describes her injuries as serious, while CATS said they were not life-threatening.
Martin faces four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, along with charges of assault on a female, disorderly conduct, trespass on a railroad right of way and common-law robbery. The warrant alleges he took the guard’s cellphone and was yelling and screaming during the incident.
Court records show Martin was initially denied bond. A judge upheld that decision at a court appearance Oct. 7.
CATS said it does not tolerate violence against employees, security personnel or customers. The agency said cameras and audio systems across the transit network can help law enforcement investigate incidents. The allegations have not been proven in court.
