CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer has been placed on unpaid leave while federal authorities investigate allegations that the officer bought guns for a convicted felon.
The officer serves in CMPD’s Metro Division, according to sources familiar with the investigation. The inquiry came to light after a suspect was arrested in a separate incident with firearms. When investigators traced the guns, the officer’s name appeared on the purchase form, the sources said.
CMPD confirmed the officer was placed on unpaid leave effective Sept. 30. The officer has not been publicly identified, and no charges have been filed.
The allegations remain under investigation. The available information does not specify how many firearms were recovered, when the separate arrest occurred or whether investigators believe the officer knowingly transferred guns to the felon.
