NWS to assess storm damage after tornado warnings in central North Carolina
The National Weather Service planned to send survey teams across central North Carolina on Monday, Oct. 12, to determine whether five tornadoes touched down as the remnants of Hurricane Isaias moved through the state over the weekend. Tornadoes had not been confirmed as of Monday morning. The agency’s surveys followed tornado warnings issued Sunday morning for the Candor area and Anson County. In Raleigh, video showed trees toppled across yards and sidewalks after the storm passed Sunday morning. In Fayetteville, storm damage affected several cars near a Sam’s Club parking lot, including one that appeared close to overturning. Images from Candor, east of Albemarle, also showed damage believed to be tornado-related. The North Carolina Red Cross said more than 40 disaster workers were helping affected communities and that it was accepting volunteers and donations.
