Johns River flooding shuts road near Chesterfield in Burke County

Flooding along the Johns River closed a section of Highway 18 north of Morganton on Oct. 11. Transportation crews placed barricades and will keep the road closed until water levels fall.

Johns River flooding shuts road near Chesterfield in Burke County
A section of Highway 18 north of Morganton was closed Sunday, Oct. 11, as flooding from the Johns River covered the roadway near Chesterfield in Burke County. The closure is just below Chesterfield Fire Rescue, according to Chesterfield Fire. The North Carolina Department of Transportation placed barricades and will keep the road shut until the river drops. Drivers and residents were asked not to go around the barricades.
