Anson County tornado alert extended as Isaias remnants move through region
A tornado warning for central Anson County remained in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday, while warnings for Montgomery, Richmond and Stanly counties expired at 9:30 a.m. The National Weather Service tracked storms capable of producing tornadoes near Wadesboro and Marshville.
A tornado warning for central Anson County was in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday as storms linked to the remnants of Hurricane Isaias moved across the Carolinas, the National Weather Service said. Earlier warnings for Montgomery, Richmond and Stanly counties expired at 9:30 a.m.
Radar showed a thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado moving northeast over Wadesboro at 35 mph. The storm was expected to reach Wadesboro around 9:30 a.m., with Lilesville, Blewett Falls Lake and Polkton also in its projected path.
At 8:57 a.m., forecasters detected rotation in a severe thunderstorm near Marshville, moving northeast at 40 mph. The storm was expected to be near Ansonville around 9 a.m.
The alerts warned of dangerous debris and possible damage to mobile homes, roofs, windows, vehicles and trees. During a tornado warning, the National Weather Service advises people to shelter on the lowest floor in a small, windowless interior room and remain there until the warning is canceled.
