CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Heavy rain and gusty winds are expected across the Carolinas this weekend as Hurricane Isaias moves north from Florida and Alabama, bringing a risk of flooding to parts of western North Carolina.
Showers were forecast to begin before sunrise Saturday, with widespread rain in Charlotte and nearby communities. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph in the Charlotte area, while mountain communities could see gusts up to 50 mph. A wind advisory was in effect for the mountains through Sunday morning.
Rain and storms are expected to continue Sunday. Forecast totals between Saturday and Sunday could reach 4 inches in some locations, and flood watches were in effect for western counties.
The heaviest weather was expected to move out by late Sunday afternoon, though scattered showers could linger. The outlook calls for mostly sunny, dry and unusually warm conditions for much of next week, with highs in the low to mid-80s.
