Gulf system may bring 1 to 2 inches of weekend rain to Charlotte area
A developing Gulf system could push rain into the Charlotte region beginning Saturday night, with 1 to 2 inches possible through Sunday. The system’s path and local effects remain uncertain, forecasters said Tuesday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A developing weather system in the Gulf could bring rain to the Charlotte region this weekend after several dry, mild days, according to the forecast issued Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Rain is expected to move north from the south Saturday night and continue through much of Sunday. Forecast guidance suggests the area could receive 1 to 2 inches, a welcome boost amid drought conditions, though the timing and amount could change as the system develops.
The system is expected to become a tropical depression within the next 48 hours and could strengthen into a tropical storm as it moves northeast. Conditions are not favorable for rapid intensification, and any direct threats from heavy rain, strong wind and coastal erosion are expected to stay along the Gulf Coast. Moisture could spread well beyond the storm’s center and reach the Carolinas.
Before the weekend, the Charlotte area is forecast to stay dry. Morning temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday are expected in the 40s and 50s, with afternoon highs in the 70s and plenty of sunshine. Highs could rise into the low to mid-80s Thursday and Friday — about 6 to 8 degrees above normal, but roughly 10 degrees below record levels.
The weekend forecast remains unsettled, making later updates important for residents planning outdoor activities or travel. Forecasters are continuing to track the system as its development and route become clearer.
