A 29-year-old man wanted in connection with an alleged assault on a pregnant woman was arrested Monday, Oct. 5, in Gastonia, police said. Steven Wilson was taken into custody by Gastonia police and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, according to police. Records show he is charged with felony assault by strangulation, along with misdemeanor charges of assault on a pregnant woman, domestic violence and battery of an unborn child. The alleged assault happened Sept. 19 in Gaston County, police said. Warrants allege Wilson pushed and punched the woman, then put one hand around her neck, causing her to fall. The warrants say she had neck tenderness and a bump on the back of her head. Authorities have not publicly detailed what led to the alleged attack or provided an update on the woman’s condition. The charges are allegations; the case will proceed through the court system.
