Charlotte officer faces simple assault charge, placed on unpaid leave
CMPD Officer Ana Mora Terrero turned herself in Oct. 13 and was charged with simple assault over an alleged off-duty incident. The department placed her on unpaid administrative leave while it conducts an internal investigation.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Ana Mora Terrero, 35, was charged with simple assault after turning herself in on Oct. 13, the department said. She has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
Police have not publicly detailed what led to the charge. The department said the alleged incident happened while Terrero was off duty. Mecklenburg County jail records listed her bond at $1,000.
Terrero joined CMPD in February 2024, according to the department. Police Chief Estella Patterson said the agency would respond to policy or legal violations with a thorough investigation, adding that no employee is above accountability.
The case comes as CMPD faces scrutiny over other recent incidents involving department employees. Patterson said those incidents were concerning, while distinguishing the conduct of individual employees from the broader force.
