Charlotte cleaner sets aside weekly appointments for households facing hardship
Rachel Farber and her team have provided at least one free home cleaning each week for six months to families dealing with illness, bereavement or mental health challenges. Farber says a cleaner, calmer home can offer relief when families are already under strain.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Rachel Farber has spent the past six months reserving time each week to clean a home for free for a family facing a crisis, she said.
Farber, who owns Rise n’ Shine House Cleaning, said she and her team began the effort earlier this year. They have completed at least one free cleaning a week for households dealing with situations including serious illness, a death in the family and mental health struggles.
Farber said she has encountered families with children and older adults who were unable to afford a full-house cleaning. She believes clearing clutter and household mess can give people dealing with anxiety or depression a sense of hope and a more peaceful place to return to.
The work is personal for Farber, who said she and some of her siblings have faced addiction and mental health challenges. She said supporting families through cleaning is a practical way to offer care and help people feel less alone.
Farber has worked as a house cleaner for about 10 years. She launched her business in Colorado five years ago and later moved to North Carolina. She said the free cleanings are rewarding, but she would take on more if the business could afford it.
Rise n’ Shine House Cleaning is accepting requests for free cleanings, as well as offers of volunteer help and cleaning supplies, through its website: https://risenshinehousecleaning.com/.
